اِنْتِقام \ reprisal: (an act of) harming sb. as a punishment for harm that he did (when punishment by law would be difficult or impossible): Our aircraft destroyed their ports in reprisal for their attacks on our ships. revenge: satisfying one’s desire to harm sb. in return for harm that he did: We had our revenge on the man who killed our father. vengeance: punishment given in return for some wrong done to oneself.

عِوَض \ substitute: sb. or sth. that is substituted: a substitute for a player who is hurt. \ عِوَضًا عَن \ in place of: instead of: My daughter was ill, so I went in place of her (or in her place). in return (for): in exchange or payment for: Give her some flowers in return for her kindness. instead: in place of sb. or sth.: I was ill, so my brother played instead (or instead of me). Instead of going to the film, I went to bed.
